What an epic trip! Where to begin…

Some amazing highlights on our Iceland trip Oct 25-30.

  • Mistakenly renting a stick shift car online, thus making Tra drive the entire trip, haha. Thanks Tra! To be fair, this is the reason why he gets a stick shift for his next car!
  • Taking a snowmobile to Langjoküll Glacier and taking an underground tour of the ice caves
  • Walking underneath the huge Seljalandsfoss waterfall
  • Soaking in a natural hot spring at the secret lagoon
  • Soaking in a not-so natural hot spring at the blue lagoon
  • Snorkeling in the absolute clear and icy waters of the Silfra Fissure

The absolute highlight of the trip:

Viewing the Aurora Borealis!

Seeing the northern lights was on both of our bucket lists and looking back now, something we totally underestimated.

As each day of the trip passed, we were unsuccessful and just about ready to give up. Finally, on the second to the last night of our trip, we took an evening drive outside the city. By sheer luck we saw a faint glimpse of the northern lights and followed it as far as we could until to the point where the road ended.

At that point we decided to get out of the car and started to take a picture. As we set up the camera, all of a sudden the entire sky lit up! The flash of colorful lights was brief (probably lasted for less than a minute), but fortunately I was able to capture it on camera. Perfect timing!

It was a a combination of weird and amazing seeing the lights appear and disappear in front of your eyes. An ethereal feeling.

Here are some of the videos and pictures of our 6 day trip. Can’t wait to go back again someday!
