The day has finally come for Daren to start pre-school!
For his first day, Bel’s Dad and I went together to see him off. The ride seemed pretty normal for the most part, with the usual playful talking and singing. We were previously told not to linger too long after drop-off to make it easier on the kids, so once we arrived we tried our best to keep our good-byes as brief as possible.
Although Daren had been to school many times before to pick up Miela, for some reason this morning when he saw all the kids he began to get very clingy and started to cry uncontrollably. At that moment, handing him over to teacher Corinna and walking out of that door was one of the hardest things that I’ve had to do in a long time.
Throughout the rest of the day, we received text updates from teachers Corinna and Allie.
I have to admit, I couldn’t really concentrate on work and was glued to my phone waiting for the next update on how he was progressing. He ended up crying and keeping to himself for most of the morning, but did a lot better in the afternoon and started to have fun with the other kids during activity and circle time. Even though it sounded like he wasn’t having the best day, it was comforting for us to know that he was in great hands.
What a trooper!
I can’t begin to imagine the whirlwind of emotions going through his head!
In any case, however hard the transition will ultimately be, the timing couldn’t be any better as Bel just ended her maternity leave and started work today as well. Now that Daren is in school full-time, that will allow Bel’s Mom to focus solely on caring for Jordan while I continue to work from home.
This week marks the start of a lot of changes in our house for sure…
