We set up our new fish tank today in the living room!
Jordan has been wanting another fish ever since the one he got at Daren’s school festival unfortunately passed away. I thought that I would surprise him and Daren with their very own fish tank before christmas!
I ended up purchasing the Fluval Edge 6-gallon on sale from Petco, an all-in-one complete package that had favorable reviews.
The kit comes with all the standard equipment you need to start off, including LED lights and a decent water filter. What’s also nice about this particular design is that the top of the tank is completely enclosed so I don’t have to deal with the kids playing around with any exposed water areas.
To start off, we purchased 4 red cherry shrimp (2 males, 2 females) from Aqua Forest Aquarium on Fillmore St., and 4 green tetras (smallest of the tetra family) from 6th Ave Aquarium on Clement St. We didn’t want to overcrowd the tank to start so let’s see how this goes for now. The decorations and plants were also bought from those stores and I thought it ended up looking pretty great in the end!
Who knows, maybe the shrimp and fish will breed and slowly increase the population in the tank!
